Curriculum

Combe School - Church Side

At Combe School we follow the National Curriculum in full. We also include the study of a Modern Foreign Language and encourage our children to learn to play a musical instrument as well as developing other expressive skills.

Our aim is to encourage and direct the development of every child's intellectual, physical and social skills. We want all our children to make good progress and be happy and confident learners at every stage of their education.

The school aims to provide a safe, happy, caring and well ordered learning environment.

Investigating Friction

We want the children at this school:

  • To develop the essential skills of oracy, literacy and numeracy in the context of a broad and balanced curriculum to enable and to use these skills effectively in a variety of contexts.
  • To develop lively and enquiring minds; the ability to question and reason rationally and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills in an independent and confident way.
  • To develop a caring attitude, understanding and respect for others and a sense of responsibility as contributors to their immediate environment and the world in which they live.

The Content and Organisation of the National Curriculum

Class 4 Roman Day

The curriculum to which each child is entitled has been laid down by the National Curriculum Council which will provide a framework to ensure the development of a child as he/she moves through the school.

The basic requirements under the National Curriculum include R.E. and three core subjects; English, Maths and Science. There are six foundation subjects; History, Geography, Music, Physical Education, Technology and Art. In addition children will experience other activities such as ICT, French in Class 3 and 4, dance and drama and PHSE.

The curriculum also addresses cross-curricular issues.

The manner in which the curriculum as a whole is delivered will reflect the needs of each individual child, and the organisation of teaching groups will, of necessity, be flexible. Policy statements and schemes of work are continually under review.

Parents

We value the opportunity to work in partnership with our parents and grandparents. We are always available to discuss children's progress or other matters. We know that children benefit from support at school and at home.
